Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB) is a humanitarian organization dedicated to improving the lives of everyone through engineering. Members are from all disciplines, ages, & interests but share a common goal of addressing the root causes of many world-wide problems. EWB-USA began at a single university, but the program & its ideals have blossomed into a collection of professional & student chapters nationwide. The EWB Great Lakes region is comprised of all EWB (student & professional) chapters in Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia, & Kentucky. The region serves as a contact between the national organization & its member chapters. It also has the goals of facilitating communication within member chapters & promoting awareness. The region also helps to host the annual regional conference, which is an opportunity for people in the region to learn leadership skills, learn technical skills, meet other people with common interests, & improve personal understanding of worldwide issues. Partner communities are vital to every project’s success. EWB works closely with community leaders and local organizations to ensure that those who will benefit from each project are part of the process. Instead of working for a community, EWB works with them to help solve their unique engineering needs.
